Knife Reviews

Being such a knife nut and all, I obviously love to play with them.

I would like to use this area to keep real life reviews of various knives. I do not plan on getting real scientific in my reviews. If you like that sort of thing, you should go visit Cutlery Science. I also do not plan on subjecting knives to things that I would not normally use them for. Don’t get me wrong, I will use them hard when appropriate. But, I do not plan on purposely destroying them to see where their limits are. If you like that sort of thing, you should go visit Knife Tests.

I also do not plan to talk extensively about metal properties and terminology. Having a background in engineering, I actually understand all the technical stuff quite well. However, there is more to steel than numbers on a page. The same steel can behave much differently with two different heat treats. While I enjoy looking in to all that stuff, in the end, the only thing that matters to me is how it really performs, in the way that I would use them myself.

So, here is a list of knives with some amount of review. I plan to continually update the reviews so that there is more detail on each knife. In general, I don’t like to judge a knife until I have had to sharpen it half a dozen times. Therefore, it is really not fair to have a review based on only a couple of hours of use. It should give you a better understanding of the knives performance over time. Even if you have read a review, check back to see if there is more detail.
