A couple friends and I managed to make it away from a long weekend of camping.
The plan was to walk in for a mile or two, camp, do some ice fishing, and stumble around in the woods with our snowshoes on and rifle in hand with the excuse that we might see some rabbits
It was a great time.
Here we are at the truck, getting ready to take off.
Here is my sled, even though it has more stuff on it than I carried. Some of my friends bags got set on it while we were unloading.
Here is what it looked like from where we departed.
Trekking out.
The view from our campsite.
One of me, just as we got to our campsite.
Packing down the camp site.
I set up the tipi while the others set out some tip-ups.
It didn’t take long for our first catch. It is a nice smallmouth. Too bad it was not in season
Breakfast the next morning was sausage on my stove, and pancakes on my friends stove.
Some random pictures of camp.
We set our for our little snowshoeing hike.
We had plenty of snowshoes to swap around.
Here I am wearing my friends traditional pair, while my friend is wearing my Atlas 12 series, 30 inch shoes. I am wearing a pack, and therefore heavier. Look at the floatation difference! It was incredible.
Some fire pictures.
A nice walleye that night.
We stayed two nights, and then packed it out. Since we were in the UP on a Monday, we figured we would try and catch Iverson’s open (since they are not normally open on the weekends). Stopping in we got to look at their snowshoes, see them being made, and even try out a few styles. Having fell in love with my friends traditional pair of shoes, over my modern ones, I just couldn’t help taking this pair of “Michigan” pattern shoes home. I might write more on these later.
