A New Pulk

Yes, I have been seriously slacking again on posting! I have done LOTS of cool stuff to post about, but simply have not had much computer time. So, I am going to try and jam in several posts of stuff here :)

I have been wanting to build a new winter camping pulk for a couple years. The old stand by sled for doing this is the Paris Expedition sled. But, I am not a huge fan of them, and have been uninspiried by ALL others that I have seen in person. Sure, there are some good looking ones out there on the web, but at the size of the thing, I don’t want to pay shipping and not like it. Meaning, I want to buy one local.

I finally saw one I like from Pelican, so I made up my pulk.

I might switch to fiberglass poles next year, but I had some steel one readily available. I used them to see how I liked the setup.

I put ball swivels on the sled end.

And just put eyes on the other end, for attaching to my belt.

The sled already had “cut outs” for attaching to, so I used them.

Except, in order to not attach to plastic, I fashioned up these brackets. Probably a bit overkill, but you never know :D

Here is the pole attached.

For my belt, I am using the belt off my Kifaru Express. The belt is removable, and it works with the belt alone, or the belt on the pack too.

Here is the whole setup.

Next up is a trip out with this rig :D
